'Die Hard' Motorcyclist 'Full Of Life' Dies In Crash: York Co. Coroner

A 54-year-old motorcycle rider died at the scene of a crash on Friday, authorities say.

Troy L. Kahler was found still wearing his helmet when authorities arrived to find his motorcycle crashed into a tree in the 1000 block of Roth’s Church Road at 2:02 p.m. in Jackson Township, according to a release by the coroner's office.

A passenger was on the motorcycle at the time of the crash but no information was shared about their condition. 

Troy was pronounced dead at WellSpan York Hospital at 3:40 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2023, by Deputy Coroner Karen Frank and Deputy Coroner Trainee Jackie Heffner.

He died from “multiple blunt force trauma” and his death was ruled accidental, according to the coroner's officer. An autopsy was not conducted, but a routine toxicology test was performed.

Troy was born and raised in York, according to his obituary. He was "a die-hard motorcycle rider and enjoyed every minute being on his bike. He had brought so much joy to the people around him. He loved of course Riding his Motorcycle, Fishing, Hunting, playing with his big boy RC cars, and traveling. He lived his life to the fullest," his family wrote in his obituary.

He had worked at Amtrak since 1991 and previously rode with Teamster Horseman Chapter 53 W) — members of both considered Troy to be family, as that is how he always made people feel, as explained in his obituary and in numerous social media posts. 

Troy is survived by his sister Lynette Kahler Marlowe, daughter Kerstin R. Kahler, extended family, friends, and coworkers, according to his obituary.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Freedom Biker Church at 11 a.m. on July 8, 2023, as detailed in his obituary. 

"Troy will be loved and missed by so many," his obituary concludes.
